Module Overview

Leadership is a very wide topic and is not limited to the Christian world. Actually, as Christians we often learn from the secular world in this area and this is a good thing, since many great minds have been reflecting and processing what a good leader ought to look like. However, we may wonder what makes Christian leadership different and what its peculiarities should be. There may be more than one, but for sure one is that a Christian leader operates out of the desire to do God’s will and he/she does it in faith. At the same time, Christian leadership is not a lonely journey. Our individualistic Western culture influences our views and erroneously leads us to think of Christian leaders as lone rangers who only commune with God. Leading by pursuing God’s will best happens in community because community reflects the way God operates in His perfect unity and diversity with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although working with others is one of the hardest aspects of leadership, it needs to remain a pillar of our ministry.

In this module we are looking to Biblical principles of pursuing God’s will in community. What does it look like? What do some stories in the Bible teach us? What are the principles that the New Testament gives us and what are their implications in our current world? How do they best apply to your local context?

Secular views of team work
The value of listening and discerning
Values that undergird community

Dr. Brett Andrews is the Director of People Development for YFC Canada. Brett is a 35-year veteran of youth ministry who has served on the front-lines in Toronto and Woodstock, Ontario. His passion is to inspire, equip and encourage people for effective and sustainable ministry. Brett loves teaching, helping people tell their stories & seeing where God is at work in their lives.
He has an M.Div in Counselling and a D.Min in Christian Leadership, is a graduate of the Arrow Leadership Program as well as a certified leadership Coach through Coachnet International. Additionally, Brett recently graduated as a certified Spiritual Director through Emmaus Formation Centre.
Brett enjoys speaking about spiritual health, leadership, coaching, strategic visioning, disciple-making and especially grace. This year he has travelled across Canada and to Jamaica, Italy, and recently returned from a disciple-making summit of the 7 churches in Turkiye.
Brett is an avid soccer fan and former player, loves tennis, cycling, reading, travelling, laughing and movies. Brett and Joanne (a public health manager) have two sons Brendan (who is married to Katie) and Chris (Natalie). Joanne and Brett welcomed their first granddaughter, born to Brendan & Katie in early March 2022 and will gladly show you a picture or two of Isla Violet.

Born and raised in Toronto, Brett and Joanne currently live in Woodstock, Ontario.
